Steelhead fishing was definitely affected by the storm system front and the full moon over the weekend; Saturday was one of the toughest fishing days of the year and few fish were found throughout the entire river corridor. Fortunately, the moon is waning and the weather pattern has settled – fishing has picked back up and returned to the “incredible” status we’ve enjoyed for the past 2 weeks. Cooler fall nights and cooler fall days have the current water level at 4970 CFS and water temperature hovering between 37-38 degrees. The river is clear with amazing visibility and the weather forecast for the week shows mostly soggy days and nights with a chance of snow by the weekend. Expect daytime temperatures in the upper 40’s to low 50’s and evening or early morning temperatures in the low 30’s – let’s all say thank you for heated jet boats! While water temperatures continue to hover between 37-38 degrees, the fish are maintaining interest in plugs and, in particular, the infamous “truck and trailer”. The steelhead are still very acrobatic and we’ve started to see many more natives, especially over 32” in the last few days.
Let’s take a look at the Exodus Steelhead Creel report for the week of November 6 to November 12! 51 people fished with Exodus, hooking into 127 steelhead (that’s 2.5 fish per person) and landing 89 (or 1.8 fish per person)! We’ve got a Most Fish Shoutout to the Home-Style Industries group: Terry, Mark, Shannon, Jeremy & Roy from Indiana (except Terry); the Home-Style group hooked in to 11 fish and landed 9 of them while jet boat fishing with Scott Warden on November 9th … way to go Hoosiers! A First-time Fisherman Shoutout to Ben Keene from Brooklyn New York; Ben had never caught a fish before so the goal was to get 1 steelhead on his line and landed…he did that so well he went ahead and landed 4 others while fishing on November 9th with drift boat fishing guide Brent Sawyer. Way to go Ben! The Biggest Fish Shoutout goes to Mike Hargis (pictured) from Boise, ID. Mike landed a beautiful 34” native steelhead that gave him quite a fight on Friday 11/11/11 with drift boat guide Brent Sawyer. Way to go superstars and thanks for making us look good!
