Weekly Chinook Fishing Report; April 27, 2011

Exodus Guide Matt Parker April 2011 ChinookSpring Chinook salmon season opened April 23rd on portions of the Clearwater, Snake, Salmon and Little Salmon Rivers in Idaho.  This year’s return of Chinook salmon appears to be late and anglers shouldn’t get in a rush to wet a line just yet.  As of April 25th, 29 adult Chinook salmon have crossed the Lower Granite Dam, the last dam between the ocean and us.  At Bonneville Dam, the first dam between the ocean and us, 4845 salmon have crossed.

Now don’t despair, the numbers crossing Bonneville Dam are improving daily and yesterday we saw a doubling of the best numbers so far with over 1000 fish crossing!

The Idaho Department of Fish and Game has set a daily limit of 4 Chinook (2 adults & 2 jacks) for 2011′s spring Chinook salmon season on the Salmon and Little Salmon rivers.  Only hatchery salmon can be harvested and closing dates will be announced by the Department of Fish and Game when harvest quotas are met.
