Greetings from Riggins! Hopefully you’ve all survived the CRAZY Idaho weather!
After a very cold weekend in Riggins, our current water level is 3910 CFS and water temperature is 34 degrees. Short lived ice issues plagued the Salmon, upriver of Vinegar Creek over the weekend but Sunday’s warmer weather has cleared out the ice problems this morning. The Riggins weather forecast for the upcoming week predicts rain all week with daytime temperatures in the upper 40’s and evening/early morning temperatures in the mid to upper 30’s.
Fishing conditions last week were great!! Fishermen hooked into 2.6 fish per person and landed 2.1 fish per person. Conditions were so good that Friday’s trip had what fishing guide Scott Warden called an “epic” day on the river. Congratulations to Mike Hargis and his friends Bill Stradley, Scott Hartly, Matt Jordan and Shawn Barrow from Boise. The group was jet boat fishing on the Main Salmon in the wilderness with fishing guide Scott Warden and hooked into 21 Steelhead, landing 14; 8 were nice hatchery fish, 6 were big natives and the 2 biggest fish measured in at a monster 36”!! That was not all though they also landed 20 cutthroat and 8 Dolly Varden for an impressive 42 total fish landed. WOW…way to go boys!
It is Women With Bait time of year again and our friends at River Adventures are busy hosting their annual women’s Steelhead derby.
