Greetings from Riggins! The fishing is HOT and we’ve been busy so we’re just a bit late with this report – Riggins current water level is 4690 CFS and water temperature is 39 degrees. The Riggins weather forecast for this week predicted chances for rain all week with daytime temperatures in the mid to upper 50’s and evening/early morning temperatures in the mid to upper 40’s.
The warmer water temperatures definitely have the fish in a migrating pattern and they are on the move. Fishing conditions last week were spotty with the most consistent fishing being above the Vinegar Creek area in the Wilderness section of the Salmon River.
Exodus fishermen hooked into 1.7 fish per person and landed 1.3 fish per person. Our big fish shout out goes to Doug Becker from Boise who landed a monster 38” steelhead while fishing with drift boat fishing guide Norm Klobetanz and our most fish shout out goes to Gary Hawbaker from Boise and his daughter Sara Wiemerslage of Swisher, Iowa; they landed 10 fish on Sunday while fishing with drift boat fishing guide Brent Sawyer.
While steelhead season on the Salmon River near Riggins is beginning to wind down, Chinook Salmon season is just around the corner. The Riggins’ annual Department of Fish and Game meeting, to discuss the upcoming 2011 salmon season, is next Tuesday the 15th and the next fishing report will include what is determined for the upcoming Salmon season.
